The Full Story
The white shrimp (penaeus vannamei) farming industry started to develop in the late 60’s in Ecuador. Very little culture and process techniques were known and product type research and development were just not present at the time. It was in the 80’s when the industry really started to respond to the global market demands, differentiating product types & sizes, and specializing in exquisite value added items.
In this same decade, our family shrimp business was consolidating, and turning into a vertically integrated business, with a hatchery producing first grade larvae for our production ponds and a packing plant on site, that guaranteed all the freshness you can expect from an export product.
Nevertheless, this scenario is not common for most of the seafood processing plants around the world and the end product does not always meet the buyer’s quality expectations, jeopardizing business relationships which result in big loss of money, brand recognition and market share.
That is when I realized the urge to create Oceanservices, a company that will serve you as your “eyes and ears” in the locations where you buy your products, a company that assures compliance according to your product specifications and international quality standards, a company you can trust.
Oceanservices started serving customers in the US who would be interested in buying seafood products in Ecuador, but rapidly expanded in the region, covering several other countries in Central and South America. Then, as global demand grew, our services were demanded also by European and Asian customers.
Nowadays, we feel more compromised than ever to fulfill our duties as a service company because of the more demanding, diversified, globalized and quick changing markets.
